Wheatland Elementary School



The annual Wheatland Elementary Spelling Bee took place on Wednesday, January 17th, 2018 in the library. The spelling bee was broadcast live over the internet.  There is a link on the district website where the spelling bee may be viewed. The 2018 winner is Ethan Ellis, a 5th grade student from Mr. Beckman’s classroom and our runner-up is, Nadia Kaewsai, a 5th grader from Ms. Hurtt’s class. There were twenty contestants in this year’s bee. Other contestants included: 3rd graders: David Wu, Emile Rivero, Isaac Holt, Abby Tofteland, Lily Ryan and Alex Paul; 4th graders: Leyla Thomas, Eric Witt, Tanner McKinsey, Lylah Covey, Chloe Gantz and Barrett Hill; and 5th graders: Tucker Travis, Tate Hutchinson, Ella Nguyen, Nadia Kaewsai, Ethan Ellis, Fiona Davis, Georga Harp and Landon Light.

Mr. Brett White pronounced the words for the students with Mrs. Lenz and Mrs. Gagnon serving in the role of judges for the bee. Ethan Ellis will be representing Wheatland Elementary at the Butler County Spelling Bee on February 2, 2018 at Butler County Community College in El Dorado, Kansas.
