My name is Ms. DuFrain and this is my tenth year of teaching first grade at Wheatland Elementary. Prior to joining the Wheatland team, I taught second and third grades. I earned both my Bachelor's Degree (Elementary Education) and Master's Degree (Curriculum and Instruction) from Kansas State University and hold two endorsements (English as a Second Language and Reading Specialist). I am a KSU enthusiast and you will see many purple things in my classroom. Go Cats!!!

About first grade...

Throughout the first grade, your students will develop academic skills in language arts, math, science, social studies, and technology. We will also focus on social skills such as working in collaborative and cooperative groups to solve problems, providing encouragement to peers, and being reflective of our thinking and actions. In our classroom we focus on developing the whole student.

Helping your child...

To help your child succeed in first grade, develop a routine that works best for your family. For example, set aside a specific time each evening to discuss daily activities, to complete unfinished assignments, or read self-selected books. You will find these activities encourage students to develop both oral and written language skills. Every day, your student will bring home a communication folder. Inside, you will find samples of their classroom work in addition to information about our classroom activities. It is important these folders are checked daily and returned to school. If you have important information regarding how a student gets home, please send a note to school with your child. In the event I am absent from school, notices sent via e-mail will not be received.

I am excited to begin our school year and to share the joy of learning with your family. Please visit our site often to find updates regarding classroom activities and fun sites to visit with your children.
